Pitching matchups for Tuesday’s MLB games

Tuesday’s MLB slate won’t be like Monday’s small slate. Fifteen games are on tap for the second day of the week and are set to begin between 3:45 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. ET. There are plenty of fun pitching battles worth watching, and we’ve picked out two of the best.

Best matchup: John Means vs. Marcus Stroman

The Baltimore Orioles’ Means threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners in his last game while racking up 12 Ks. He’s a perfect 4-0 on the year and has tallied at least 9 strikeouts in three of his last four outings. His 0.67 WHIP and 1.67 ERA are nothing to scoff at and his .158 BABIP could spell trouble for the New York Mets. Stroman is a key member in one of MLB’s most effective rotations. New York has given up the least runs (81) this season, and Stroman boasts a 1.05 WHIP and a 2.10 ERA. Like Means, he’s held the opposition scoreless in three of his seven appearances.

Sleeper matchup: Shohei Ohtani vs. Lance McCullers Jr.

It’s always a party when the Los Angeles Angels’ Ohtani is on the mound. The 26-year-old walked six batters in his last start, but also struck out seven and gave up one hit in five innings. Ohtani’s .188 BABIP is top-notch, and he’s also riding a four-game hitting streak. The Houston Astros’ McCullers has tallied at least eight strikeouts in two straight games and has posted a career-best .227 BABIP.
