Update: May 13 — The Yankees announced SS Gleyber Torres has tested positive for Covid-19. He was vaccinated and previously had Covid and recovered from it. Torres has been placed on the injured list and 3B Miguel Andujar has been recalled from AAA.

Update: May 12 — The Yankees announced that three coaches — Phil Nevin, Reggie Willits and Matt Blake all tested positive for Covid-19 and 4 additional staff also tested positive. All 7 members of the Yankees were vaccinated prior to positive tests.

The New York Yankees coaching staff has had five members test positive for Covid-19, Marly Rivera of ESPN reported Tuesday afternoon. The Yankees were over the 85 percent vaccination threshold as a team and all five coaches that tested positive were reportedly already vaccinated, according to Andy Martino. The Yankees begin a series down in Florida with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Per Martino, manager Aaron Boone expects the game to be played vs. the Rays.

Boone said that third base coach Phil Nevin has tested positive and is in quarantine, per Jack Curry. The other coaches are receiving tests and awaiting results. It doesn’t appear this game is in danger of being postponed, but you never know with Covid-19. It’s the second incident of Covid-19 on Tuesday with the San Diego Padres placing three players, including Fernando Tatis Jr., on the Covid-19 injured list.

Boone told reporters Mario Garza will coach 1B for the Yanks and Carlos Mendoza will man 3B with Nevin not with the team tonight. Reggie Willits is also not with the team.
