We have another full 15-game slate in the majors on Saturday, with the first game starting at 1:10 p.m. ET between the New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays. We are going to look at the best pitching matchup and the sleeper pitching matchup that could turn out to be a pitchers’ duel.

Here’s a look at the pitching matchups for Saturday’s 15-game MLB slate on May 15th.

Best Matchup: Mike Minor vs. Carlos Rodon

One of the best pitchers in the majors this season will be on the mound Saturday in Carlos Rodon. The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals will continue their four-game set at 7:10 p.m. ET. Rodon has a perfect record of 5-0 and impressive 0.58 ERA through five starts this season. The 28-year-old starter has been the best pitcher in the White Sox’s rotation by far this season.

Rodon faced the Royals last week, in game in which he only allowed 5 hits and struck out 8 hitters in 6.0 IP. He will be opposed by Mike Minor for the Royals, who has a record of 2-2 and 5.75 ERA through seven starts. The 33-year-old has struggled this season, giving up 15 walks and 6 home runs in 25.2 IP. In his last start, which coincidentally came against the White Sox, Minor allowed 5 earned runs, 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 7 hitters in 5.0 IP.

Sleeper Matchup: Cole Irvin vs. Jose Berrios

This was a tough decision because there are a few solid sleeper matchups on the mound on Saturday. However, we decided to stick with the second game of the day, with the Oakland Athletics taking on the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins have been one of the worst teams in the majors, but it has not stopped Berrios from doing what he needs to. The 26-year-old starting pitcher has a record of 3-2 with an ERA of 3.49 through seven starts. The last time Berrios pitched against the Athletics on Apr. 20, he received the loss in a 1-0 defeat in seven innings. The right-handed pitcher only gave up 4 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk, but struck out five in 5.0 IP.

Meanwhile, Irvin has rejuvenated his career this season with the first place Athletics. The 27-year-old has a record of 3-4 with an ERA of 3.29 through seven starts. The southpaw did not play well the previous two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, but has figured it out with the Athletics.
