How to watch, what to watch for on May 16th of the 2021 MLB regular season

We take a look at the games on slate for Sunday, May 16th in the 2021 MLB season.

We have a full 15-game slate in the majors on Sunday, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Before first pitch between the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, we’ll take a look at the best games on the schedule, rookies to keep an eye out for, and fantasy spotlight.

Best Games To Watch

After a solid Saturday slate, there are a few good games to watch on Sunday afternoon and night across MLB. The first game to check out is the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox, who are scheduled to play at 1:10 p.m. ET. The Red Sox have won the first two games out of the three-game series. Jose Quintana (0-3, 9.00 ERA) will be on the mound for the Angels, while Nathan Eovaldi (4-2, 4.20 ERA) will start for the Red Sox.

A couple other of games to tune into are the Texas Rangers against the Houston Rockets at 2:10 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and St. Louis Cardinals against the San Diego Padres at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Fantasy Spotlight

For Sunday’s spotlight, we are going to highlight Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, who has been their best offensive player this season. Bryant is slashing .309/.403/.667 with 10 HRs and 24 RBI in 144 plate appearances. At his current pace, the 29-year-old Bryant is projected to hit 44 HRs and 105 RBI for Chicago. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll get to those numbers, but Bryant will still be a constant play in MLB DFS.

Rookies to Watch

To wrap-up our preview, we are going to focus on Seattle Mariners’ top prospect Jarred Kelenic. The 21-year-old outfielder was called up this week after getting off to a hot start in the minors this season. With Triple-A Tacoma, Kelenic was slugging .370/.414/.630 with 2 HRs and 5 RBI in 29 plate appearances. The top prospect hit his first home run on Friday night against the Cleveland Indians, which was a part of a three-hit night. It’s too early to say where he ranks at in fantasy baseball or the Rookie of the Year watch. But we can say that Kelenic is already off to a great start.
