How to watch, what to watch for on May 17th of the 2021 MLB regular season

We take a look at the games on slate for Monday, May 17th in the 2021 MLB season.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

A new week opens up around baseball today, but nearly half the teams in the league have a day off. We’ve still got you covered with the best games to watch in this nine-game slate.

Best Games To Watch: New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves 7:00 p.m.

This game is being broadcast on ESPN for a reason and it’s because there’s a lot of intrigue around it. These two teams were the favorites to win the NL East before the season started and both are still in a solid position to come away with it. Though an extra layer of interest is added to this one because it’s the first time these two division rivals will meet this season, nearly 50 games in. The games between these clubs could be the deciding factor between who makes the playoffs and who is at home watching in October.

Fantasy Spotlight

Buster Posey has been dominant when he is in the lineup. The Giants catcher is hitting .382 this season over 26 games. In those games, he’s gotten a hit in 20 of them and multiple hits in eight of them, including a three-hit day on Sunday. He had Saturday off, so he’s likely to suit up again today when the Giants take on Cincinnati.

Rookies to Watch

Keep an eye on Texas Rangers rookie Adolis Garcia. He’s been in and around the majors for a while, making his MLB debut in 2018. Still, he never got extended time in the big leagues, so he’s still considered a rookie. He got called up about a month ago and has been posting crazy numbers ever since. In 30 games he’s hitting .289 with 10 bombs and 27 RBI. He was held hitless yesterday but has only been hitless in two straight games once this season, so expect him to get back on track today against the New York Yankees.
