There will only be eight games on Monday’s eight-game MLB slate and start times will range from 1:07 p.m. ET to 9:40 p.m. ET. A couple of pitching battles stand out on the short slate and we’ve identified a pair of the best matchups to watch.
Best matchup: Blake Snell vs. Brandon Woodruff
The San Diego Padres’ Blake Snell is coming off his best performance of the year. he mowed down 11 batters in just six innings against the Colorado Rockies in his last start. While Snell’s BABIP (.312) is average, his LOB percentage (79.2%O is respectable. He has a chance to build momentum against a Milwaukee Brewers team that ranks outside the top 25 in hits. Woodruff has been far more consistent and has reached double-digit Ks in two of his last three starts. His .74 WHIP and .195 BABIP show how excellent he’s been this year.
Sleeper matchup: John Means vs. Matt Shoemaker
The Minnesota Twins’ shoemaker isn’t much to look at, but the Baltimore Orioles’ John Means has been one of MLB’s best arms. Means is 4-0 through nine starts and boasts a .75 WHIP with a .188 BABIP and a ridiculous LOB percentage (96.5). Means’ 1.70 ERA could improve against the Twins.
