We have a 16-game slate Sunday in the majors with the first game starting at 1:05 p.m. ET between the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates. We are going to look at the best pitching matchup and the sleeper pitching matchup that could turn out to be a pitchers’ duel.

Best Matchup: Kevin Gausman vs. Clayton Kershaw

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers will end their four-game series with an outstanding matchup at 4:10 p.m. ET. Gausman walks into Sunday’s afternoon with a record of 5-0 and 1.53 ERA through 10 starts. The Giants’ ace pitcher has been phenomenal on the road this season, with a perfect record 4-0 and 0.81 ERA. This will be the first time that he’s faced the defending World Series champions this season.

As for Kershaw, he’s been stellar on the mound as well this season. The 33-year-old has a record of 7-3 and 2.94 ERA in 11 starts. Just like Gausman, who has found success on the road this season, Kershaw has been great at home — 3-1, 2.81 ERA.

Sleeper Matchup: Blake Snell vs. Zack Greinke

On any other day, this pitching matchup is probably one of the best on the slate. However, we will get to see Blake Snell and the Padres play Zack Greinke and the Astros at 2:10 p.m. ET. Snell has not fared well in his first season with San Diego with a 1-1 record and 4.50 ERA through 10 starts.

But Snell could turn things around on Sunday afternoon as he has a 2.51 ERA against the Astros. Greinke continues to be the consistent force in Houston’s starting rotation. The 37-year-old is 4-2 and 3.97 ERA through 11 starts this season. The veteran pitcher is showing no signs of slowing down, throwing at least six innings in his last three outings.
