Pitching matchups for Monday’s MLB games

MLB will kick off the new week with a 14-game slate on Memorial Day that’ll begin with a Twins-Orioles game at 1:00 p.m. ET. Several stars will take the mound, and we’ve identified some of the best pitching battles to watch.

Best matchup: Jack Flaherty vs. Trevor Bauer

The St. Louis Cardinals’ Flaherty is MLB’s wins leader and boasts an 8-1 record. He suffered his first loss of the year in his last start and will get a chance to redeem himself against one of the best lineups in baseball. Flaherty’s BABIP (.247) is above average, but the Los Angeles Dodgers will make holding off runs difficult. Bauer ranks sixth in Ks with 91 and his .82 WHIP is one of the best marks in MLB. His BABIP (.176) and LOB% (91.3) are also hard to match, so expect the Cardinals to have a tough time.

Sleeper matchup: Jose Urena vs. Corbin Burnes

Burnes’ 2-4 record leaves something to be desired and his WHIP (.65) is outright ridiculous. the Milwaukee Brewers ace is the only pitcher with more than 70 Ks in less than 10 starts. The Detroit Tigers have a bottom-five scoring offense and will likely struggle against one of MLB’s most consistent arms.
