Memorial Day is upon us and that means MLB is treating us to nearly a full slate of games while you’re enjoying your day off work. While we’re spoiled for choice today, we can help you out by giving you some key things to look out for throughout the day. We’ll tell you what we think is the best matchup to watch, who can help you out big in fantasy and a few rookies to keep an eye on.
Best Games To Watch
The Red Sox head down to Houston to open up a series against the Astros today. This is a solid matchup between two teams that sit less than two games back in their division races. The Red Sox are hot, winning seven of their last 10 but the Astros have won just four over the same span. However, the ‘Stros are throwing Jose Urquidy, who has a sub 3.5 ERA this season in eight starts, though he hasn’t seen Boston yet in his career. The Sox are putting Eduardo Rodriguez on the hill. He’s struggled recently, with an over 5 ERA, and has come off three straight losses in his most recent starts.
Jacob deGrom, New York Mets
deGrom is taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks today, which doesn’t bode well for the team from the desert. The Diamondbacks have won just one game out of their last 10 and are scoring an average of 3.9 runs per game in that span. The team hasn’t faced a pitcher in the same stratosphere as deGrom in any of those games. Arizona also has the 11th most strikeouts in the league with close to 500 while the Mets hurler has 74 strikeouts in just 45 innings.
Rookies to Watch
Randy Arozarena, Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays rookie made a big name for himself last season in the playoffs, but he’s continued to make an impact in his first full season in the Bigs. He’s a key cog in the hottest lineup in baseball, who have won 15 of their last 16 games. Arozarena is hitting just under .270 with 26 RBIs and 36 runs scored. Tampa Bay takes on the Yankees this afternoon, a team which he’s seen success against. He’s earned at least one hit in six of the eight games the teams have played this season, with eight total hits in that span.
