We have a loaded 15-game slate on Sunday in the majors with the first game starting at 1:05 p.m. ET between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals. We are going to look at the best pitching matchup and a sleeper matchup that could turn out to be a pitchers’ duel.

Best Matchup: Kris Bubic vs. Chris Bassitt

Despite Carlos Rodon, Walker Buehler, and Shane Bieber all starting Sunday, the best pitching matchup might be happening in the Kansas City Royals-Oakland Athletics series finale at 4:07 p.m. ET. Rookie pitcher Kris Bubic will be on the mound for the Royals, while Chris Bassitt will get the start for the A’s.

Bubic has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 3.18 in nine games (five starts) this season. The 23-year-old struggled in his last outing against the Angels, allowing four home runs in 4.0 IP. Bassitt, however, has been lights out for the Athletics and is a sleeper candidate to win the AL Cy Young this season. The veteran pitcher has a 6-2 record, 3.44 ERA, and 86 strikeouts in 13 starts.

Sleeper Matchup: Domingo German vs. Aaron Nola

In one of the early games on Sunday afternoon, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies will wrap-up their quick two-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Domingo German will get the start for the Yankees while Aaron Nola will try to bounce back for the Phillies.

After struggling to start off the regular season, German has picked up for the Yankees and becoming one of their better starting pitchers. He has a record of 4-3 and 3.12 ERA in 11 starts this season. Also, the 28-year-old has only gave up three runs or less in his last nine outings. Meanwhile, Nola has been struggling to start the season with a 4-4 record and 4.06 ERA. The Phillies’ ace had abnormal May with an ERA of 4.55 with a 1-3 record. But the good news is that Nola has played well at home this season — 2-1, 3.03 ERA in 6 games.
