Eight MLB games are on the slate with 14 teams in action on Monday, June 21st. This includes a doubleheader matchup between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets to make up a game from May 28th. Below is a preview of what to look for when the action gets started tonight.
Best Games To Watch
Games between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have become must-watch television. This has developed into a compelling rivalry, and the two will meet up again for a three-game set in San Diego starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. The Dodgers will enter with a 44-27 record, while the Padres are 42-32 overall as both trail the San Francisco Giants for the top spot in the NL West.
Another intriguing matchup will take place earlier in the night when the Chicago Cubs host the Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of a quick two-game series. Chicago is 40-32 in a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in the National League Central, while Cleveland is 39-30, 2.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox for the top spot in the American League Central.
Fantasy Spotlight
Cincinnati Reds hitters should find some success on Monday night in their game against the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota will start with J.A. Happ on the mound, and he has really been struggling recently after a hot start to the season. He has allowed four or more earned runs in six of his last seven starts to increase his ERA to 6.12. Look for the Reds’ top sluggers Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker and Jonathan India to exceed expectations from a fantasy perspective.
Rookies to Watch
Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia has an incredibly bright future as a major leaguer. He has knocked out 18 home runs this season, tied for sixth in the MLB. Garcia homered in two of his last three games and recorded at least one hit in six of his last seven. He and the Rangers will face the Oakland Athletics on Monday night.
Another promising rookie in action is Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Pavin Smith. It has been an incredibly rough season for the Diamondbacks, who are looking to avoid their 18th consecutive loss on Monday night when they face the Milwaukee Brewers, but Smith has been among the few bright spots. His batting average sits at .274 with an on-base percentage at .327.
