The MLB will feature 11 total games on the schedule with 22 teams in action on Monday, June 28th. The Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds will make up a game postponed from June 2nd and the New York Mets and Washington Nationals will make up a game postponed from their COVID-postponed season opening series. Below, we will preview the day of baseball with the best games and players to watch for.
Best Games To Watch
The San Francisco Giants have been on a roll recently against top competition, and that will continue when they start a road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco is 50-27 for the best record in baseball, while the Dodgers are just 3.5 games behind in the National League West. Another game to track is the Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers as the two best teams in the N.L. Central. Milwaukee has a 45-33 record, three games ahead of the Cubs.
The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t had much to celebrate this season, but they have a good shot at getting their bats going against the Colorado Rockies. The over/under for this game is set at 11.5, which is the highest run total of the day. Pittsburgh batters will go up against Kyle Freeland, who is 0-2 with a 7.76 ERA through six starts this season. This provides another opportunity for left fielder Bryan Reynolds to keep his hitting streak going. Reynolds is riding a 12-game hitting streak to increase his batting average to .312 this season.
Rookies to Watch
In the Pirates-Rockies game, Pittsburgh’s rookie third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has been stringing together plenty of quality performances in a row. Hayes recorded two hits in each of his last four starts, and his batting average rose to .298 this season. Like Pittsburgh, the Arizona Diamondbacks have really struggled this season, but rookie first baseman Pavin Smith has been a bright spot to this team. He has the second most at-bats on the team and recorded at least one hit in six consecutive games. Arizona will face St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Wade LeBlanc, who has a 6.75 ERA in 10 appearances this season.
