MLB starting lineup news, injury report for Tuesday, June 29th

We’re updating you throughout the day with all the latest lineup news and injuries heading into Tuesday’s MLB slate.

Shohei Ohtani is the best hitter on tonights MLB DFS slate

We have a full 15-game slate in the majors on Tuesday, beginning at 7:05 p.m. ET. There are a lot good matchups happening across the league that will not only have betting but also fantasy implications. Over the course of the day, we will be keeping up to date with the latest injury and lineup news before first pitch between the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees.

Speaking of the Angels, two-way star player Shohei Ohtani is among a trio of home run hitters, who have been on absolute tear recently. Ohtani hit his 26th home run on Monday night in the series opener against the Yankees. The 26-year-old designated hitter will try to hit his fourth HR in five games on Tuesday night.

Along with Ohtani, Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs for the fifth time this month against the New York Mets Monday, bringing his total to 24. Lastly, we cannot forget about first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has 26 home runs too as the Blue Jays begin a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners at 7:07 p.m. ET.

MLB lineup and injury news — Tuesday, June 29th

Giants OF Mike Yastrzemski resting vs. Dodgers

Mike Yastrzemski is out of the San Francisco Giants’ lineup tonight, one day after fouling a ball off his shin. With him on the mend, San Fran will go with the outfield alignment of Alex Dickerson, Steven Duggar and Mike Tauchman against Dodgers starter Walker Buehler.

Facing Buehler is no easy task, but I wouldn’t mind some exposure to Duggar for $3,000 on DraftKings. He is hitting well above his expected rates, but he ultimately has a .310/.371/.558 slash line with 16 extra-base hits in 113 at-bats against right-handers this year. Buehler isn’t just any righty, but why not see if Duggar can keep this up at a far-from-prohibitive cost?

Bryan Reynolds, Colin Moran out of Pirates’ lineup

Bryan Reynolds, who ranks fourth in the NL with a .311 batting average, is apparently taking the night off for the Pirates. It’s too bad for Reynolds’ fantasy owners as he is hitting better than .400 with 13 RBIs during his current 13-game hitting streak ahead. And he’s missing an opportunity to pad those numbers at Coors Field tonight.

Colin Moran is also on the bench one day after he was hit by a pitch. He is listed as day to day.

Cubs stars Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo sitting Tuesday

The Chicago Cubs’ lineup looks pretty shorthanded heading into tonight’s matchup against Brandon Woodruff, one of the best pitchers in the National League.

Kris Bryant is on the bench due to some side soreness. Meanwhile, first baseman Anthony Rizzo will miss his second consecutive game after he departed early on Sunday because of back tightness. However, he is apparently feeling better. Eric Sogard will fill in at third base while Patrick Wisdom will move over to first. It’s the first time this season that both Bryant and Rizzo are missing from the starting lineup.

There’s not much action to take here on the DFS front. Bryant will back in there tomorrow, and you hope Rizzo is well enough to join him. None of the replacements are enticing — Wisdom has really cooled off after his bonkers hot streak in late May and early June. Furthermore, you should be fading your Cubs against Woodruff at home. He’s been great all season, but especially against the Cubs, who have scored just one earned run against him in 19 innings this season. Woodruff is the most expensive player on the DraftKings board tonight at $11,000.

Phillies 2B Jean Segura activated off IL, batting second

The Phillies have activated second baseman Jean Segura after he spent two weeks on the injured list due to a strained groin. He is batting second tonight versus the Marlins. Segura is actually a little ahead of schedule; he was initially expected to be out of action into July. He will face off against Marlins rookie left-hander Trevor Rogers, who has a very strong season. He owns a 2.08 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and has struck out 101 batters in 96 2/3 innings. Segura is 0-for-6 against Rogers this year.

However, Segura is not a terrible choice at just $3,400 on DraftKings. His .332 batting ranks second-best among all National League players with at least 200 plate apperances this season.

Blake Snell scratched vs. Reds

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell will not be on the mound for tonight’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds due to an illness. Manager Jayce Tingler told reporters that Snell is under the weather and that relief pitcher Craig Stammen will get the start for the Padres. This season, Stammen has appeared in 33 games for San Diego and has a 3-1 record with an ERA of 2.82.

Marlins’ Miguel Rojas taking a seat vs. Phillies

Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas is not in tonight’s starting lineup against the Phillies due to a non-COVID illness. He is just 6-for-36 since returning on June 18 from an IL stint because of a dislocated left index finger.

The Marlins officially marked themselves as Trade Deadline sellers on Tuesday when they dealt Corey Dickerson to the Blue Jays. And Rojas may follow him out the door soon. Rojas actually said on Monday that he would be open to a trade if it was what’s best for the Marlins’ organization. The 32-year-old has a .256/.328/.406 slash line this season. That’s a steep drop from when he hit .304 with a .392 on-base percentage in 2020.

Jose Abreu in, Yoan Moncada out of White Sox lineup

Two days after getting drilled on the knee with a pitch, White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is ready to go for tonight’s game against the Twins. Abreu was diagnosed with a bruise after getting beaned by a 96 mph sinker on Sunday. Manager Tony La Russa said Abreu is “sore” but able to move well enough to play. Abreu, who costs $5,000 on DraftKings ahead of his matchup versus Minnesota right-hander Kenta Maeda, is in the midst of a month-long slump as he has a paltry June slash line of .181/.236/.277. The 2020 AL MVP has hit just one home run since May 29.

Although Abreu is back, third baseman Yoan Moncada is missing from tonight’s starting lineup. La Russa divulged that Moncada is receiving treatment for a sore shoulder and might play Wednesday. Leury Garcia will take over the hot corner in his stead. You could do worse if you’re looking for a low-cost option on DraftKings tonight. Although Garcia doesn’t provide much power, he did go deep in a game last week and is 11-for-36 with seven runs scored over his previous 11 games.

Randy Arozarena not in lineup vs. Nationals

The Tampa Bay Rays will not have Randy Arozarena starting in left field for tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals. The AL Rookie of the Year candidate will be replaced by Austin Meadows in LF. It appears that the Rays are loading up with left-handed bats against Nationals starter Joe Ross, who is allowing lefties to hit .242 with 6 HRs. Meadows is valued at $5,300 on DraftKings and is averaging 10.6 DKFP in his last five games. Brent Phillips will be in RF and Kevin Kiermaier will be in CF.
