Tuesday’s 15-game MLB slate will get off to a late start. The first three matchups of the day will begin at 7:05 p.m. ET, while the final game between the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres is set to get rolling at 10:00 p.m. ET. There are several quality pitching battles worth keeping track of, and we’ve picked out a pair to watch.
Best matchup: Shane Bieber vs. Carlos Martinez
Who wouldn’t want to watch’s MLB’s strikeout leader? Bieber leads all pitchers with 117 Ks on the year and boasts a 1.19 ERA. The Cleveland Indians ace has reached double-digits in punchouts six times through 12 starts and the St. Louis Cardinals are a middle-of-the-pack team at the plate by most metrics, so baseball fans could be in for yet another big-time performance from Bieber.
Sleeper matchup: Tyler Glasnow vs. John Lester
The Tampa Bay Rays’ Glasnow is second only to Bieber in strikeouts with 106. His 0.92 WHIP and .229 BABIP are both better than Bieber’s. The Washington Nationals have MLB’s sixth-ranked batting average (.247). Can Glasnow get the best against Trea Turner and company? We’ll find out soon.
