Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer is reportedly on the block and could be dealt before Friday’s MLB Trade Deadline. If that is the case and the Nats move on from the 3-time Cy Young winner, he has submitted a list of 8 teams he’d approve a trade to before 4 p.m. ET. That list includes the following, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic.
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
Boston Red Sox
Tampa Bay Rays
Toronto Blue Jays
Houston Astros
New York Mets
According to Stark, the New York Yankees were left off the list and Scherzer wouldn’t want to join the Bronx Bombers. For this reason, Stark says it feels unlikely the Mets will land Scherzer. He clearly wants to go to a contending team and compete for his second World Series title. Scherzer turned 37 years old on Tuesday, but is having another stellar season, going 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 105 IP so far in 2021.
