The Oakland Athletics are closing in on a deal for Miami Marlins OF Starling Marte, Craig Mish reported on Wednesday afternoon. Ken Rosenthal also confirmed Marte is heading to Oakland. Jon Heyman adds that pitcher Jesus Luzardo is being sent to Miami.

Marte is enjoying a career year as his .859 OPS and his 136 OPS+ are both personal bests. He is a free agent at the end of this season, but he upgrades Oakland both offensively and defensively as he will now slot into an outfield that already has a terrific center fielder in Ramon Laureano.

Luzardo, 23, was viewed as a top-10 prospect by Baseball America entering the 2020 season. While he was decent in that season, the lefty has really battled his control and his confidence in 2021. He owns a 6.87 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP through 38 innings thus far. The Parkland, Florida native will hope that a fresh start can help him get back to his previous form.

The Marlins are expected to remain active sellers prior to the MLB Trade Deadline, which is 4 p.m. ET on Friday.
