Update — It is indeed the Yankees. According to multiple reports, the Yankees are acquiring Gallo from the Rangers on Wednesday night. The deal is pending a physical and we’ll see what the Bronx Bombers are sending back in return to Texas.

The Yankees are also acquiring LHP Joely Rodriguez from the Rangers and the prospect haul for Texas is said to be significant, per Lindsay Adler of The Athletic. Here’s the full prospect package going to the Rangers, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Texas Rangers OF Joey Gallo was scratched from Wednesday night’s lineup vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks. This move is likely because a trade is on the horizon for Gallo, who has been rumored to be on the block for a while now. Here’s a look at the Rangers updated lineup for tonight:

The New York Yankees are reportedly gunning hard for Gallo before the MLB Trade Deadline, which is Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. YES Network’s Jack Curry mentioned Gallo a few hours ago in a tweet and the Yankees are currently taking on the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees also scratched OF Aaron Judge earlier tonight, though the chances that means he’s involved in a trade are non-existent. We’ll see where Gallo ends up. The Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres have also been linked to Gallo. We’ve seen the Pads incredibly active so far before the deadline, adding Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Gallo brings a power lefty bat that is highly coveted. This bat is particularly coveted by the Yanks, who have the type of stadium leftie generally thrive in. Gallo has 25 HRs and 55 RBI on the season for the Rangers, who are in a bit of a rebuild and are looking to acquire assets. That may be what holds the Yankees back in a deal.
