Landry Shamet Status Update
To no one’s surprise, Shamet has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game vs. the Rockets. This was the news we expected, though we didn’t get an extended timeline on when Shamet may return. So for now, let’s consider him day-to-day and look for Lou Williams, Moe Harkless and Rodney McGruder to step up, assuming Paul George (shoulder; questionable) doesn’t make his debut Wednesday night.
Shamet has a high ankle sprain of the Grade 2 variety, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and a timeline has yet to be determined by the Clippers.
With Shamet expected to miss some time, let’s look at how it impacts Los Angeles’ lineup moving forward.
Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Los Angeles Clippers SG Landry Shamet
Shamet starts for the Clips and usually plays heavy minutes, averaging 29.4 per game, fifth on the team. So while Shamet isn’t a big fantasy producer, his minutes will have to trickle down to the rest of the healthy players, which is where we can identify some value in DFS and options to pick up in season-long.
At first glance, Lou Williams is the main benefactor. Coach Doc Rivers likely won’t insert Lou Will into the starting 5, but we can expect more shots for Williams, who already averages 17.1 FG attempts per game and nearly 5.0 3-point attempts. Shamet was averaging 5.8 3PA per game, tops on the team. Los Angeles normally runs a crunch-time lineup with Patrick Beverley, Lou Will, Kawhi Leonard and Montrezl Harrell, with Paul George (shoulder) likely to join that group once he returns this week. I think Rodney McGruder or Moe Harkless make the most sense to start games, but McGruder likely wouldn’t return much value. Harkless would get some additional minutes and could be an interesting value play Wednesday vs. the Rockets.
