Shams Charania of The Athletic has graced us with his presence for the first time Wednesday, reporting that Nets guard Caris LeVert may have ligament damage in his thumb and will likely be sidelined for several weeks.

The injury has held LeVert out since Nov. 10 due to the injury and he’s expected to see a specialist, per Shams.

In a subsequent move, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets are bringing in veteran guard Iman Shumpert to add depth to the backcourt. Shumpert played last season with the Rockets and had been in talks with a few teams prior to this news.

Let’s look at what a potential long-term absence for LeVert would mean for the Nets’ lineup.

Fantasy Basketball Analysis, Brooklyn Nets SG/SF Caris LeVert

Last night vs. the Jazz, I had a few guards on my value watch for the Nets with LeVert out. That list included Spencer Dinwiddie and Garrett Temple, each playing over 20 minutes. It appears Temple will remain in the starting five in place of LeVert, but Dinwiddie will provide more value off the bench anyway. Overall, LeVert’s extended absence would mean more scoring opportunities for lesser players, but the focus will be Kyrie Irving.

Irving’s usage rate was over 40% last night in the tough road loss to Utah, though that was a tough matchup. As long as Kyrie’s price in DFS remains reasonable, he’ll be a great GPP play depending on the matchup. Brooklyn’s next few games: at DEN, at CHI, vs. IND, CHA and SAC at home.

You’ve also got to feel bad for LeVert here after all the injuries he’s been through. With all the talent, it’d be a shame to see his career become derailed.
