The early frontrunner for NBA MVP, Luka Doncic made another statement Monday night, posting an insane 40-point triple-double in a 117-110 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Dallas Mavericks budding star scored 42 points on 14-of-27 shooting, notching 12 assists, 11 rebounds and five 3-pointers in 35 minutes in the win.
Doncic became the 2nd youngest player in NBA history to record a 40-point triple-double, right behind the King himself, LeBron James. Doncic and James are the only two players to put up this type of stat line before turning 21 years old.
In terms of fantasy, Doncic was the top play on last night’s DraftKings slate, posting 78.25 FPTS on a $9,800 salary. He was featured in our cash-game options and paid off huge at a suppressed salary that had me scratching my head. Moving forward, don’t expect this type of discount on Doncic, who will likely land himself in the James Harden, Giannis Antetokounmpo-range of salaries the rest of the season. This was his sixth straight game with at least 56 FPTS and fifth game over 70 FPTS in 2019-20.
And I mean come on, right now on DraftKings Sportsbook he’s +1200 to win MVP, which seems like an insane value given the type of numbers he’s putting up relative to history. The only players ahead of him for MVP odds are Giannis (+250), Harden (+300), James (+650) and Anthony Davis (+800). It’s also not like the Mavericks are bad, they’re 8-5 after last night and very much in the playoff picture in the Western Conference.
