The Portland Trail Blazers made a desperation move in bringing in Carmelo Anthony after starting the 2019-20 NBA season 5-9. Well, it’s still early, but they may be regretting that decision sooner rather than later. Melo officially signed his one-year, non-guaranteed contract with Portland on Tuesday. He then made his Blazers debut shortly after against the New Orleans Pelicans.
In that game, Melo showed some clear signs of rust, finishing with 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting with four rebounds, five turnovers and five fouls in 24 minutes. He finished with 15.5 fantasy points on DraftKings, actually returning value at $3,900 salary. In DFS, Melo may have some value if he’s given big minutes and his usage is high; it was 33.7% in his debut.
It’ll also be interesting to track how his point total fluctuates on DraftKings Sportsbook throughout the season. To start out, the line was set at 9.5 points, with it eventually turning into an even -110 both over and under. He hit the over, but just barely, and if you got in early when the line was +100, it paid off.
