Report: Daryl Morey stepping down as Rockets GM

Morey is best known for his blockbuster trades, bringing James Harden and Chris Paul to Houston.

Daryl Morey is stepping down as general manager of the Houston Rockets, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday.

Morey is reportedly leaving his position after the Rockets were bounced from the postseason yet again. During Morey’s tenure as GM, Houston came within a game of making it to the NBA Finals in 2018. The Rockets made it to the Western Conference Finals twice during Morey’s time with the team. Per Woj, Morey hasn’t ruled out a return to basketball in some capacity. He is considering other professional options, however.

The Rockets will keep Morey on as an advisor until the team names a new head coach, a search that has been ongoing since Mike D’Antoni decided not to return to the team. Morey will be replaced by Rafael Stone, who has played a significant role in building the Rockets’ current roster over the years with Morey.
