UPDATE: Despite coming off the bench, Russell had a decent game off the bench in the T-Wolves’ 111-101 win over the Pistons in the opener on Wednesday night. D’Lo still played 33 minutes — so it was essentially like he started. Russell scored 18 points with 5 boards and 4 assists. Rubio was quiet. He finished with 3 points and 3 assists in 25 minutes.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are starting PG Ricky Rubio ahead of G D’Angelo Russell due to delay in Covid-19 testing, which caused Russell to be late to morning shootaround prior to their season opener against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Russell will come off the bench to start the game.
Ricky Rubio starting in place of D’Angelo Russell tonight

Delay on Russel’s results for covid protocol kept him from starting shootaround on time this morning
This is a bit odd because it doesn’t appear to be D’Lo’s fault he missed shootaround this morning, unless he was late to his Covid-19 test. Either way, Rubio ($6,600) will start ahead of Russell along with Malik Beasley, Josh Okogie, Jake Layman and Karl-Anthony Towns for the T-Wolves against the Pistons.
Rubio may be a decent pivot in GPPs on DraftKings given his price and what he’s capable of doing. This is also a very good matchup against Detroit, which has mostly young guards and Derrick Rose and Delon Wright. Russell ($7,200) on the otherhand may be someone to pivot off of, though this news may make it so his ownership is a bit suppressed. There’s still about 15 minutes or so before this game locks.
