The NBA and ESPN are hosting a H-O-R-S-E Challenge in an attempt to keep things going during this time without basketball. The competition is to be aired on ESPN this Sunday with the first round, followed by the semifinals and final next week. The field includes NBA stars Trae Young, Zach LaVine, Chris Paul and Mike Conley. Joining them are two WNBA standouts, former Champion Tamika Catchings and 3-point specialist Allie Quigley. Alongside them are two former NBA stars in Chauncey Billups and Paul Piece, both current analysts for ESPN. Here’s a breakdown of the matchups:
- Trae Young vs. Chauncey Billups
- Tamika Catchings vs. Mike Conley
- Zach LaVine vs. Paul Pierce
- Chris Paul vs. Allie Quigley
Here’s a brief overview of how the game works, provided by ESPN:
All games will be filmed while competing at home locations — on indoor or outdoor courts — and compete shot-for-shot in the traditional playground game.
A coin toss will establish the shooting order for the players, with the more senior player calling heads or tails. Players must describe each shot attempt, specifying the type of score they intend to make before taking a shot, such as a bank shot or swish. Dunking is prohibited. The first player in each game to accumulate the letters “H-O-R-S-E” after failing to match five shots is eliminated.
Okay, now that all of that is out of the way, here’s a look at the hypothetical odds for the tournament, provided by DraftKings Sportsbook Director Johnny Avello. The odds are not available to bet on at the sportsbook.
Trae Young — 8-5
Zach LaVine — 7-2
Chris Paul — 9-2
Mike Conley — 6-1
Allie Quigley — 12-1
Tamika Catchings — 18-1
Paul Pierce — 22-1
Chauncey Billups — 25-1
