The NBA G League just landed another big commitment. That sentence sounds weird, but it’s something we should start getting used to seeing. Daishen Nix, a 5-star recruit who was committed to UCLA for this Fall has decided to decommit and join the NBA G League to start 2020-21, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
Nix, who will likely be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, will join other top prospects in Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd, each having already committed to the NBA G League prospects team. Green and Todd are both in the same boat as Nix — potential high lottery picks in 2021. Nix is a 6’3” point guard who is the complete package. He can get to the rim, shoot and distribute at a high level, much like former UCLA guard Russell Westbrook.
The NBA G League has reportedly been heavily recruiting top players to decommit and come to the prospect team for next season. There was another report stating that the team could play at the Mamba Academy in California, showcasing their talents at a facility founded by the late Kobe Bryant. We’ll see if all of this can entice young budding stars into leaving the NCAA for greener pastures in the G League.
