Eric Bledsoe and Pat Connaughton will not play in the Bucks opener against the Celtics on Friday, Mike Budenholzer says. They both practiced today.— Malika Andrews (@malika_andrews) July 30, 2020
This is a bit of a surprise, at least for Bledsoe. It seems the Bucks are fine taking it slow with their starting PG considering it’ll be a long-shot for them to lose the No. 1 seed in the East. Connaughton tested positive for Covid-19 along with Bledsoe and both were isolated. Coach Mike Budenholzer said Thursday both players practiced, so again, we can expect them to return soon.
Fantasy and betting impact
From a fantasy perspective, it may be hard to fade Giannis Antetokounmpo on Friday’s slate. Giannis looked amazing as always in scrimmages and will only need to handle the ball more with Bledsoe off the court. From a value standpoint, Donte DiVincenzo has been the guy to step up when the Bucks are short in the back court. Wesley Matthews should also see some more time at guard with George Hill. All three will be decent value considerations, though the Celtics are strong on defense.
The line as of now on DKSB is the Bucks favored by 5 points. We can assume that number may go down with the Bledsoe news. I’m OK jumping on the Celtics because, well, I liked the Celtics before this news came out. I think this game will be very competitive and should be closer to a 3-4 point spread. With that said, if the number does come down, there’s also a scenario in which Giannis dominates a team with no size and the Bucks cover.
