Jonathan Isaac, Markelle Fultz expected to play Friday vs. Nets

The Magic will roll with D.J. Augustin as the starting PG and James Ennis at SF for their NBA season restart opener.

Orlando Magic F Jonathan Isaac and G Markelle Fultz will not start in Friday’s opener vs. the Brooklyn Nets, but both are expected to play, coach Steve Clifford told reporters before the game.

Isaac will play in his first regular-season game since injuring his knee early on in 2019-20. Fultz, who was the Magic starting PG for most of the season, had to leave the bubble to attend to a personal matter and was forced to quarantine. So his status is more conditioning related than anything.

Fantasy basketball and betting impact

Isaac ($5,800) and Fultz ($5,100) are both risky DFS options on a six-game slate that features much safer plays. We don’t know many minutes either of them will receive and it isn’t like either has a high ceiling to begin with. The only appeal would be that both should be low-owned and the Nets could lose this game to the Magic early on. If that’s the case, perhaps Clifford opts to get Isaac and Fultz some more minutes.

The line on this game is still -7 in favor of Orlando, so this news doesn’t alter much. The Nets are in a very bad position down multiple starters. Still, Brooklyn needs to win this game to try and hold onto the No. 7 seed in the East, and chances are the Nets won’t go down without a fight.
