Zion Williamson to remain on minutes limit Saturday vs. Clippers

Pelicans PF only played 15 minutes in opener vs. Jazz. GM David Griffin says the rookie sensation won’t be extended in second game.

New Orleans Pelicans PF Zion Williamson will remain on a minutes restriction Saturday vs. the Los Angeles Clippers, GM David Griffin told reporters Friday.

Williamson only played 15 minutes in the Pelicans loss to the Utah Jazz in their first game in the bubble on Thursday night. The Pelicans are now 4.0 games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 8 seed and their chances of making the playoffs are shrinking fast. New Orleans holding back Zion again doesn’t make much sense, but obviously his future is of most importance.

Fantasy basketball and betting impact

As for DFS, if we see a price decrease for Zion, then I actually think he’s an OK option. Williamson scored 13 points in 15 minutes against the Jazz. The Clippers are still missing Montrezl Harrell and played Joakim Noah and JaMychal Green in the front court primarily against the Lakers on Thursday. This is a matchup Zion can exploit, even if it means he only gets around 15 minutes to do so.

The line on this is -5 in favor of the Clippers and the O/U is 226, which seems very high given what we saw from both teams on Thursday. The Clippers have the defenders to lock down Brandon Ingram and Jrue Holiday. Zion may get whatever he wants down low, but it won’t be for much of the game. The Clippers need to maintain the No. 2 seed and should be a bit more motivated coming off a loss. New Orleans may be on its last life in the bubble if it drops two in a row.
