The Sacramento Kings are making some major changes in their front office. Vlade Divac is stepping away from his role as the team’s general manager, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Divac has been Sacramento’s general manager since 2015, but it appears like ownership felt there was a need for change after the team had an underwhelming showing in the bubble and was eliminated from playoff contention. The Kings went 3-5 following the NBA’s restart and didn’t come close to earning a play-in game.
Joe Dumars, who joined the Kings as Divac’s advisor in 2015, has been named the interim vice president of basketball operations and will assume general manager responsibilities moving forward. He won’t be a long-term solution and will help find a replacement for Divac.
Luke Walton was chosen by Divac to be the Kings’ head coach this past offseason, but Amick reports that his job isn’t in any immediate danger.
