The Toronto Raptors are taking care of some important business on Tuesday. The team is signing head coach Nick Nurse to a multi-year extension, according to reporter Shams Charania. This comes three weeks after he was named 2019-2020 NBA Coach of the Year.
The news is not surprising given the job he did this past season. The Raptors lost in seven games to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but it was still a solid achievement considering the roster turnover. The Raptors lost star Kawhi Leonard in free agency, but Nurse did a solid job developing players up and down the roster. Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, and Norman Powell have all been crucial to the Raptors success in recent years, and all have come from outside the lottery. They’ve made significant strides playing for Nurse.
Nurse just completed his second season as Raptors head coach. Nurse signed a three-year deal when he was promoted into the role following the 2017-2018 season.
