The Wizards fell to the Grizzlies before the All-Star Break, 125-111 in D.C. Washington let second-year guard Ja Morant drop 35 points with 10 assists in the loss, so containing the reigning Rookie of the Year will be key on Wednesday night. The Wizards are 16-20 but only 2.0 games out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. If the Wiz continue to play like they did before the break, they’ll have a shot at the play-in tournament. Washington went into the break 7-3 in the past 10 games.
The Grizzlies enter the second half an even 16-16 in the West with plenty of games in hand due to postponements. This is one of those games, so the Grizz will want to get off on the right foot at home. Grayson Allen will remain sidelined due to a concussion. Other than that, the Grizzlies are pretty healthy for the stretch run. Expectations were somewhat high after blowing the play-in tournament and the 8-seed last season. We’ll see if Morant can get Memphis back to the postseason.
