UPDATE: March 12, 6:36 p.m. — Embiid will be available to play in Friday’s game vs. the Wizards. Washington is still awaiting word on G Bradley Beal, who is a game-time decision. If Beal is sidelined, Davis Bertans will start. Embiid being back is a big boost for the Sixers against a weak frontcourt for Washington.
Philadelphia 76ers C Joel Embiid is probable to return to the lineup for Friday’s game vs. the Washington Wizards. Embiid and fellow All-Star teammate Ben Simmons were placed in health and safety protocols after coming into contact with a barber who tested positive while in Atlanta for All-Star Weekend. Both players were forced to quarantine and missed Thursday’s game vs. the Chicago Bulls. Embiid is probable to return. Simmons’ status has not been determined as of now.
With Embiid and Simmons sidelined on Thursday, the Sixers seemed fine. They coasted to an easy win over Chicago. The team shot over 50 percent from the floor and dominated the Bulls in the paint without Embiid. Dwight Howard expects to get less run with the All-Star likely to return. Tony Bradley should go back to the bench from the starting lineup. Seth Curry, Danny Green, Shake Milton and Matisse Thybulle will continue to get run as long as Simmons is out.
The Sixers are only favored by 4.5 points on the spread on DraftKings Sportsbook. This feels like a good spot if Embiid is going to be back. The Wizards are pretty thin in the front court and I highly doubt the likes of Mo Wagner, Rui Hachimura, Robin Lopez and Davis Bertans can contain the MVP favorite. If both Simmons and Embiid return, we should see this line move to at least 6.5-7.5 points for Philly on the road.
