The NBA All-Star Game wasn’t supposed to happen this season and maybe that was for a reason. The reason being they weren’t able to get anyone to partake in the 2021 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The field doesn’t really give us any name value at all. That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t get excited but ... it may be sort of tough to get hyped for this trio. New York Knicks PF Obi Toppin, Portland Trail Blazers G Anfernee Simons and Indiana Pacers G/F Cassius Stanley are your contestants in the dunk contest this season.
Last season, we had a pretty exciting All-Star Weekend that ended with a thrilling finish in the ASG. This season, well, at least the dunk contest looks like it won’t be worth watching. In 2020, Derrick Jones Jr. beat out Aaron Gordon to win the dunk contest. Dwight Howard and Pat Connaughton rounded out the field. We only have three players and one who is sort of considered in an NBA rotation in Simons. All three have hops and are great dunkers but that isn’t surprising in the NBA. We want names! You’ve got plenty of All-Stars featured in the other contests. GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT! WE WANT ZION!
