The Battle of Los Angeles sees its final chapter for the 2020-21 season on Thursday night. It won’t have the same luster as it normally would. We would have expected both these teams to be in the top 3 in the West. This isn’t the case. Instead, both teams are fighting for position in the 4-6 ranks in the conference. The Clippers have already shored up a playoff berth. They are essentially locked into a top 4 seed but could end up facing the Lakers if they end up grabbing the 5-seed.
That won’t be easy for the Lakers with LeBron James back on the shelf after aggravating his ankle sprain. With James out Thursday and Friday, the Lakers will have a tough time finishing the season strong. James may not get a ton of action before the postseason. Dennis Schroder is also out due to health and safety protocols while a few other rotation players are also banged up.
