Mosley had been an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks for each of the last seven seasons and had been the head coach for the organization’s summer league team. Prior to that, he spent four seasons as an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers and five with the Denver Nuggets.
Steve Clifford and the Magic parted ways in June after finishing the 2020-21 season with a 21-51 record, which was the third worst in the NBA. In Clifford’s three years in Orlando, the team had a combined record of 96-131 with two playoff appearances.
