Davion Mitchell, Sacramento’s prized rookie, went just 3-12 from the floor but contributed with seven assists. The Kings were elite defensively, forcing the Celtics into 28 turnovers. Boston didn’t shoot that poorly relative to Sacramento, but the turnovers were the difference in this game.
Carsen Edwards led the Celtics with 15 points. Aaron Nesmith, another player expected to be in Boston’s rotation, contributed 12. Boston was undefeated in the Las Vegas event prior to the championship game.
Both teams will be looking to contend this season, although the Kings are more desperate after a long playoff drought and an extended rebuild. The Celtics have retooled their roster, but are still expected to be in the playoff hunt with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
