Rams trading for Jalen Ramsey, shortly after dealing Marcus Peters

The Rams are moving and shaking at the cornerback position two weeks before the NFL trade deadline. They traded away Marcus Peters and have now traded for Jalen Ramsey. Well then!

The Los Angeles Rams traded cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday afternoon, and now Tuesday evening they have acquired Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team is dealing two first round picks in 2020 and 2021, and a fourth round pick in 2021, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Rams are sitting at 3-3 and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Losses to Tampa Bay, Seattle, and San Francisco are proving they have some serious holes to fill. They decided Marcus Peters was not the answer and Jalen Ramsey was the way to go. Considering the haul they dealt away and the contract they’ll have to give Ramsey, it’s a sign of how aggressive they want to be, even at 3-3.

This is a huge upgrade for a defense that has struggled to do much of anything this season. It hasn’t been awful (except the Bucs game), and Peters and Troy Hill have been solid, but Ramsey is a clear upgrade — particularly as the team also placed Aqib Talib on IR.

Prior to this move, the Rams were third in odds to win the NFC West. The 49ers were +110, the Seahawks were +165, and the Rams were +300. They’ve got a lot of work to do considering their loss in Seattle and their home loss to the 49ers. There will be some room in the wild card chase, but even there they remain two games back of the 5-1 Seahawks and a game back of the 4-2 Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers. They’ve got their work cut out for them.
