The New York Jets finally got some good news after a miserable start to the 2019 season. Sam Darnold will return to his starting quarterback role in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys. Darnold has not played since Week 1, when he completed 28 of 41 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown. He was diagnosed shortly after with mono.
He returned to practice after the team’s Week 4 bye in limited fashion. Luke Falk has started three straight games in place of Darnold and has been mediocre, at best. He has 416 yards and three interceptions in those three starts.
Fantasy football analysis, Jets QB Sam Darnold, WR Robby Anderson, RB Le’Veon Bell
This is a big deal for fantasy owners. Sam Darnold is not a regular starting option, but his return is huge for his skill position players. This season has been a disaster for Le’Veon Bell, Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder, and Demaryius Thomas. Darnold’s return provides an upgrade to all of them.
And let’s not forget the return of tight end Chris Herndon following his four-game suspension. Darnold will have some intriguing weapons, and there is fantasy value to be had.
The Jets opened as an 8.5-point underdog to the Cowboys for their Week 6 matchup. Once the Jets announced Darnold’s return, the line dropped to 6.5 at DraftKings Sportsbook. The Jets are going to be an interesting team with Darnold, but it’s hard to know what to make of them in Week 6. I’m going to be wagering on them here and there this season, but in Week 6, I’m inclined to wait out this week and see how he looks in his return.
