It’s been a rough year for NFL kickers, and Carolina Panthers kicker Joey Slye might have had the worst day of the season. Slye missed one field goal and two extra points, costing the Panthers a critical road win against the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints won the game 34-31, and Slye is going to be left wondering what could have been. He missed one extra point in the first quarter when the Panthers got on the board and trailed 14-6. He missed his second extra point late in the third quarter when Carolina scored to cut the Saints lead to 31-24. He then missed the field goal at the two minute warning.
The Panthers drop to 5-6 with the loss and their playoff chances are just about finished. They are four games back of the Saints in the NFC South and three games back of the Minnesota Vikings in the wild card race. They had a lot of work in front of them, but an upset in New Orleans would have been huge. Instead, they blow it and likely their meager playoff chances.
