Washington hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15, and they have a special guest at FedEx Field. Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is on hand for the game, according to beat writer JP Finlay.
Meyer has been coveted by NFL owners for some time now, and Washington owner Dan Snyder is likely one such owner. He fired head coach Jay Gruden earlier this year and is in the process of figuring out how to turn things around. It remains to be seen how Meyer would handle the NFL, but successful college coaches are regularly wooed by NFL owners.
Washington has been a dumpster fire of an organization for some time now. It would seem to make their chances of hiring a big name head coach difficult. However, if Meyer wants full personnel control along with the head coach role, Washington is one place where that could happen.
Team president Bruce Allen has had Dan Snyder’s ear for some time now, but more and more media are reporting Snyder might be ready to make a change. Considering Washington drafted former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins as their quarterback of the future, that could add to the allure for Meyer.
If Meyer is in fact present for today’s game, it’s safe to say Snyder will have a conversation with him at some point.
