How to watch and what to watch in Rams-49ers

Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning, with the 49ers trying to take first in the NFC West and L.A. look to get into the Wild Card. We provide fantasy football advice, odds info, and how to watch via live online stream.

It’s hard to tell which team this game means more to. The San Francisco 49ers were on track to run away with the NFC West and now they’re behind the Seattle Seahawks, both teams tied at 11-3 but Seattle holding the tiebreaker. The Los Angeles Rams have had a down season by their standards after reaching the Super Bowl last season. But they’re still alive in the NFC Wild Card hunt at 8-6, though they’d need some help from the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Game Time/TV channel/Streaming

Rams-49ers is a 8:15 p.m. ET start time, so inactives will drop at 6:45 p.m. ET. The game will be televised exclusively on NFL Network and can be streamed on the NFL’s applications and Yahoo! Sports.

Fantasy Football Start/Sit Advice

The last time these two teams met was earlier in the year and it was a defensive struggle. The Rams’ offense only posted seven points and the group has widely been inconsistent most of the season. The 49ers defense has been a top unit and is in a must-win game at home. If the Niners falter, they could somehow end up being an 12-4 team that is only the No. 5 seed in the playoffs. In terms of fantasy, LA’s defense is much more susceptible and we should look to attack the secondary.

Strong start: TE George Kittle, RB Raheem Mostert, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, WR Cooper Kupp, D/ST 49ers

Decent start: WR Emmanuel Sanders, WR Robert Woods, RB Todd Gurley, K Robbie Gould, K Greg Zuerlein, TE Tyler Higbee, WR Deebo Samuel, WR Kendrick Bourne

Sit: D/ST Rams, WR Brandin Cooks, RB Matt Breida, RB Tevin Coleman

Pick against the spread

As of this writing the line on the game is Niners (-6.5), which seems incredibly generous to the Rams, right? The Niners took care of LA pretty easily on the road and San Fran is 4-2 at home this season. I think the books believe this will be a tight division game with both teams fighting for playoff position, but it’s hard to trust the Rams’ offense. San Fran has won each of its past eight December home games against the NFC West, plus that was with teams much inferior to this year’s squad. Maybe if the margin was wider than a TD, sure, but I think the Niners can easily get past the Rams at home by a TD-plus.
