The New England Patriots could clinch a first round bye with a win over the Miami Dolphins, and somehow they managed to blow it. Ryan Fitzpatrick found Mike Gesicki in the closing seconds and the Dolphins shocked New England 27-24 in Week 17. The Patriots were as much as 16.5-point favorites this week, but were stunned.

With the loss, the Patriots drop to 12-4 and drop to the No. 3 seed thanks to the Chiefs own win over the Chargers. The Patriots now have to play in the wild card round and will face one of the Titans, Steelers or Raiders next weekend in the wild card round. New England has dealt with an assortment of injuries, but won’t get extra time to get healthy. Julian Edelman has been dealing with knee and shoulder issues lately, and Tom Brady has had elbow problems.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and DeVante Parker were the heroes in this game. Fitzpatrick threw for 320 yards and a touchdown. Parker led the team with eight receptions for 137 yards. He didn’t face Stephon Gilmore every play, but he had a strong game against the best corner in the NFL and potential defensive player of the year.

Tom Brady had a fairly middling game, finishing with two touchdowns and an interception and throwing for 209 yards. Sony Michel rushed for 74 yards and a score. Phillip Dorsett caught a big 50-yard catch, while James White had 33 receiving yards and a score.
