This comparison of Tom Brady and Mitchell Trubisky will get people talking

The New England Patriots are 10-2 and likely will have a first round bye in the playoffs, but their offense has struggled in recent weeks. Even in games where Tom Brady has put up big numbers, the unit has struggled with consistency.

Last week against Houston, he threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns, but it took until deep into the fourth quarter for the offense to get going. By the end of the game, wide receiver Julian Edelman and running back James White had combined for 23 of the team’s 46 targets and 14 of 24 receptions. Jakobi Meyers had some moments, but Brady’s pass catchers struggled to get going.

Early Tuesday morning, someone decided to poke the bear with Patriots fans. This comparison of Brady vs. Mitchell Trubisky is certainly going to result in plenty of angry Patriots fans. The Patriots are decidedly better than the Bears, and I doubt anybody would take Trubisky over Brady.

And yet, the numbers dating back to Week 4 tell an interesting story. Brady has played one more game (and most of a second) in that time because of Trubisky’s shoulder injury. Nonetheless, this speaks to Brady’s season. The Patriots have ridden an incredibly good pass defense to this point, but they likely will need a little bit more from the offense if they want to win another Super Bowl.

It will be worth comparing Brady’s numbers to various shaky quarterbacks by the time the 2019 regular season comes to an end.
