The New York Giants have let head coach Pat Shurmur after two losing seasons. He finished his two seasons with nine wins and 23 losses, which included a nine-game losing streak this season. Getting saddled with a past his prime Eli Manning and then a rookie quarterback who led the league in fumbles probably wasn’t the best recipe for success but as Shurmur himself said, “This is a wins business -- I get it, I get it.”

The Giants did retain GM Dave Gettleman much to the chagrin of fans, but he is there for the rebuild based on his two first round picks, Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones. A new head coach will need to mesh with Gettleman to get the job.

The first rumored candidate is Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. Rhule was an assistant offensive line coach with the Giants in 2012 but has made his mark recently with a quick turnaround of Baylor’s disgraced football program. He reportedly turned down the Jets job last season and appears to be first in line for the Giants job.

The usual suspects will also be on the radar — Mike McCarthy, Jason Garrett (if/when fired), Josh McDaniels, and Brian Daboll all should garner a look. We’ll keep you up to date on all the rumors and interviews reported until the Giants hire a new head coach.
