The Jaguars aren’t going to clean house. After letting executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin go earlier in the month, they have decided to keep Doug Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell.
Marrone started his tenure strong with a trip to the AFC Championship buoyed by the best defense in the league, but it has been all downhilll from there, as Marrone and the Jaguars have suffered two losing seasons after holding onto Blake Bortles for too long and taking a risk on Nick Foles which has not paid off. But owner Shad Khan has decided to keep Marrone on after talks with players, staff, Caldwell and Marrone.
Bad blood between star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Marrone started 2019 off on a bad foot and then the NFPLA rebuffing Coughlin and his many illegal fines piled on the ill feelings after a losing season. It appears the dismissal of Coughlin is how they will look to repair those ill feelings. Khan won’t hire a replacement for Coughli, as they will report directly to Khan about bigger issues now.
