Washington has had a miserable season and it was not surprising when they decided to fire head coach Jay Gruden. An 0-5 start after back-to-back 7-9 seasons coupled with some questions about how to approach rookie Dwayne Haskins resulted in his termination.
Bill Callahan was brought on as interim head coach to finish out the season. The team has gone 3-4 during his seven game stretch, avoiding playoff elimination heading into December. It is likely not going to result in Callahan getting the head coach job, but it’s brought at least a small measure of respectability to the franchise.
The season is wrapping up, but Washington has likely already begun the preliminary aspects of their head coach search. The Carolina Panthers have joined them in the market for a new head coach, and plenty more will join them when the season comes to a close at the end of December.
