Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books. Whether you started out your fantasy season with a win or a loss, you might need some reinforcements at the running back position already, especially with a few key players dealing with injuries. Here are some options to consider adding off the waiver wire who are still available in the majority of Yahoo! leagues.
Ronald Jones II, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (28 percent rostered)
It was an ugly first game for the Bucs, who lost to the 49ers in large part because of the inconsistent play of quarterback Jameis Winston. Jones, Peyton Barber and Dare Ogunbowale all played similar snap counts, but Jones led in overall touches and red zone touches. He cashed in his 13 carries for 75 yards and could eventually emerge as the team’s top option at the position.
Malcolm Brown, Los Angeles Rams (12 percent)
The popular handcuff for Todd Gurley during the preseason was Darrell Henderson. However, it was Brown who shined against the Panthers, turning 11 carries into 53 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams like to run the ball and have a potent offense, so add Brown while you still can, especially if Gurley is already on your roster.
Chris Thompson, Washington (12 percent)
Washington made Adrian Peterson inactive versus the Eagles despite being healthy, but he is once again in play with Derrius Guice (knee) expected to miss some time. Thompson should see plenty of work in the passing game, making him an asset in PPR formats. Case in point, he hauled in seven of 10 targets for 68 yards in Week 1.
Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers (0 percent)
With Jerick McKinnon (knee) out for the season yet again, Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida took over the reins at running back for the 49ers. Coleman could now be forced to miss some time, as well, after he left Sunday’s game against the Bucs with an ankle injury. The fear is that he could be facing a multi-game absence, which would vault Mostert into an increased role even if Breida remains healthy.
