Selecting a defense in DFS can be mostly determined by opponent more than any other position in your lineup. No matter how good the defense is, you’re not going to want to start them against the New England Patriots or Kansas City Chiefs. However, if you see any defense going against the Miami Dolphins, go all in and grab those guys.
Here are three defenses worthy of your selection as you study Week 2 matchups.
Patriots (@ Miami) $3,700
The Patriots should be the most expensive defense heading into Week 2, but they sit at No. 3. The Miami Dolphins’ season opening weekend performance is just about the worst way to start the season possible. Things do not appear to be getting better since players are already to be off this team, which appears to be undergoing an organizational tanking to build for the future. That doesn’t happen much in the NFL, but New England is going to take advantage on the lack of talent on this team.
Texans (vs. Jacksonville) $2,800
This is probably the best value pick among the defenses going into the second week of the season. The Texans are going from Drew Brees and all the Saints offensive playmakers to Jacksonville, which will likely be starting Gardner Minshew, a rookie selected in the sixth round out of Washington State. He looked good coming in for Nick Foles, but it’s hard to trust him to do this two weeks in a row going up against this Houston defense.
Steelers (vs. Seattle) $2,400
If you’re looking for a safety pick, get all in on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2. You pretty much know what you’re getting when you play against Seattle’s offense. It will not get shut out, but the Seahawks will also not wow anybody by going out and throwing a 50 burger on you. The Steelers are priced pretty cheap due to a bad opening week performance against the New England Patriots. Look for a bounce-back from the Steeler D.
