Giants name Daniel Jones starting quarterback, bench Eli Manning

The move seemed inevitable, and now the New York Giants are looking to the future with Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants have made what seemed like an inevitable decision. The team announced Tuesday morning that Daniel Jones will replace Eli Manning as their starting quarterback moving forward.

The Giants travel to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. The DraftKings Sportsbook opened the point spread at Bucs -5.5, and it climbed to 6.5 points by Tuesday morning. The line has since been removed while they assess how best to approach the decision to move Jones into the starting lineup. Editor’s update: The line re-opened at Buccaneers -7.

Fantasy implications: The Giants have looked fairly atrocious out of the gate, but they retained some fantasy value. Saquon Barkley has been productive in spite of big deficits, and the passing game has had a lot of opportunities to fill the stat sheet. Jones looked solid in the preseason, and given Eli Manning has played much of the past couple years with a fork sticking out of his back, Jones is not really a downgrade. Jones was a questionable top ten pick, but he’s got more upside at this point than Eli. Evan Engram remains a solid option, and maybe some of the other pass catchers gain a little value. As for Jones as an option? He’s worth stashing in keeper and dynasty leagues, but in one-quarterback re-draft leagues, he holds little value.

Betting implications: We’ll update this when the new point spread comes out, but we’ll likely see a modest increase. It does not need to be too much given the state of Eli Manning’s abilities, but we’ll see some kind of change. Editor’s update: The line re-opened at Buccaneers -7.
