The Kansas City Chiefs will be shorthanded again in their backfield in Week 4, with running back Damien Williams sidelined due to a knee injury. He missed last week with the injury and missed a three straight day of practice this week, according to Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher. He was officially ruled out after practice, according to Chiefs reporter Herbie Teope.

Last week, LeSean McCoy split time with Darrel Williams. McCoy had eight rushes for 54 yards and a touchdown, as well as three receptions for 26 yards and another touchdown. Williams had nine rushes for 62 yards and five receptions for 47 yards in a 33-28 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy impact: The Chiefs face a surprisingly solid Lions squad in Week 4. Detroit has the tenth ranked rush defense at Football Outsiders and is sitting at 2-0-1. This is a decided step up in competition, and Patrick Mahomes on the turf of Ford Field could mean crazy numbers.

It’s not an ideal situation between McCoy and Williams, and you’re likely going to be playing some guess-work with how to handle them. Considering Williams looked better than McCoy last week and is entering only his second season, he would seem to be the bigger upside play. If you have to choose between the two, I’d lean Williams. If you have McCoy or Williams but not both, they could be solid flex options.
